Myofascial Massage
During myofascial release therapy, your therapist doesn’t focus specifically on your muscles. Myofascial release is a specialized, hands-on physical therapy technique that applies gentle, sustained pressure to eliminate restrictions in the fascia—the connective tissue surrounding muscles. It aims to reduce pain, increase mobility, and release tension in both muscles and fascia, rather than just relaxing superficial muscles. (Sometimes referred to as Trigger Point Therapy)
Key Aspects of Myofascial Massage
What is Fascia? Fascia is a thin, fibrous web of connective tissue that wraps around every muscle and bone in the body, which can become restricted due to injury, stress, or poor posture.
- The Technique: Instead of traditional sweeping strokes, therapists apply slow, direct, and sometimes intense pressure to tight, restricted areas (trigger points) without oils, allowing the tissue to stretch and soften.
- Benefits: It helps to improve posture, increase range of motion, and alleviate chronic pain associated with conditions like fibromyalgia or chronic back pain.
- Sensation: The process can feel intense or slightly painful during the release, and some soreness may exist afterward, but it often results in immediate improvements in flexibility.
When to Use It
Myofascial release is often used for:
- Chronic back and neck pain.
- Fibromyalgia and Myofascial Pain Syndrome.
- TMJ Disorder.
- Headaches and migraines.
- Arthritis and chronic joint pain.
Draping: Per Kentucky State regulations, all patients are covered by draping. (This includes breast draping.) All massages are 100% therapeutic.
